The MLB playoffs are going on without the New York Yankees.
I’ll let that sink in for you Yankee fans.
Now the 27-time World Series champions have to decide on which of their long list of free agents to bring back.
Mariano Rivera: This is an easy one. They must bring back this legend, at least for a one-year contract. They can’t let historic career end the way it did, flagging down flyballs in the outfield during the practice.
Andy Pettitte: I’m sure the Yankees will love to bring this guy back. He pitched well when he was on the mound and that includes the playoffs. But whether he comes back or not is probably up to the southpaw.
Hiroki Kuroda: This pitching sensation was dominant most of the season. He went 16-11 with a 3.32 ERA and pitched even more innings than CC Sabathia. They need to get Kuroda back on the roster.
Russell Martin: He’s been solid behind the plate the entire time he’s been with the team. His hitting has been inconsistent but the Yankees don’t have many other options at catcher.
Rafael Soriano: This is an obvious one. Who knows how durable Rivera will be if the Yankees bring him back. Soriano was dominant in the closer role. He compiled 42 saves.
The New York Yankees have other free agents: Nick Swisher, Ichiro Suzuki and Raul Ibanez. I think the Yanks need to cut their losses with these guys and get some young talent out on the field.
