Number 80 rose to fame last year at the wide receiver position for the New York Giants, compiling 82 receptions, over 1,500 yards and nine touchdowns, but can he keep it going during the 2012 season?
Cruz can thank Mario Manningham for going down and getting injured last season, allowing Cruz to get some playing time and salsa dance all over Giants stadium (sorry, it’ll always be Giants stadium to me). But Manningham is no longer apart of the team and people know what Cruz can do on the field, so the doubt is there. What else is up against Cruz?
Brandon Jacobs is also a former Giant now, questions loom around the Giants running game. Can Bradshaw carry the load? Will someone else shine in the new #2 role. Something tells me defenses may gamble and play against the pass a lot more this season.
How about the #3 wide out position for the Giants…Who is it? I have no clue. According to the Giants’ depth chart, it’s currently Jerrel Jernigan, a player out of Troy with no stats to his name. Can he hold his own? Or is it Domenik Hixon? No one knows how he’ll return from injury.
All hope isn’t lost on Cruz having another successful season.
One of the major keys to keeping defenses honest and not overloading on Cruz will be the tight end position. I’m not sure if Cruz is wondering if former Dallas Cowboy Martellus Bennett wears a cape and has super glue on his hands but he should. Two-time Super Bowl MVP, Eli Manning, loves throwing to his tight ends, and Bennett will need to definitely get going this year for Cruz to stay hot.
I’m sure Cruz bought Bennett a gift welcoming him to the team.
Do you think Cruz can continue success this year?
