It’s been one hell of a busy year for Toronto/Austin gunslingers Black Pistol Fire. Over the summer, the duo (Kevin McKeown guitar/vox, Eric Owen drums) released Shut Up!, A Tribute To Little Richard, a five-song EP that honored and added the band’s own Southern-tinged, garage rock swagger and stomp to the legacy of these timeless standards. A little over a month later came the critically acclaimed sophomore LP Big Beat ’59.
Now, McKeown and Owen are heading back into the studio with producer Jim Diamond (The White Stripes, The Von Bondies, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) to begin laying down tracks for their third full-length via Rifle Bird Records. On the new record, Owen states: “We’re really excited to work with Jim again. We’ll be incorporating some dance rock on this record as well as some more roots/country music. The goal is to get this done quickly (2 days) and get it to the fans as soon as we can!” Stay tuned for updates on the upcoming record, and download/stream Big Beat ’59 through the link below.
