Much like any viral media fad going around that will vanish in less than a year, the seven-year-old Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson. This whole obsession with a poor Georgia family (well, once poor) only further deteriorates my confidence in contemporary American taste. I have not seen this show on TLC, nor do I have any desire to. There is however one show that will alleviate the temporary pain.
When something like this comes around, Trey Parker and Matt Stone of South Park are quick to jump on and target the absurdities of pop culture. The episode to air on Comedy Central tonight will tackle the TLC show in a way that South Park could only pull off. In a quick preview released, Honey Boo Boo picks out a hog to use for a pageant, with her insisting that the best hog is the one that gave her the “evil eye.”
There’s no telling where this is going to go. There’s also some other side story featuring Cartman and his adventures at “Wall-Mart,” and the severely obese cart-riding consumers that shop there. It could be hilarious. It could be disturbing. But knowing South Park, it’ll probably be both.
