Live Concert Review: Fitz & The Tantrums at Music Hall of Williamsburg

Fitz & The Tantrums
Last night at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, Fitz and The Tantrums took the stage in front of a sold crowd and worlds collided.

The sneaker generation meshed with the jazz and soul lovers, and I’m just talking about the crowd. This is what happens when Fitz and The Tantrums play, their sound brings people together all in the name of good music.

Fitz, led by Michael Fitzpatrick and Noelle Scaggs, brought a lot of energy and excitement, breaking a sweat by the end of it and made sure the crowd left drenched as well.

It was the last show of their five-week winter tour and left no doubt that they’ll be back again. Classic music from amazing musicians that played the hits off their first LP, Pickin’ Up the Pieces, along with a few covers, including “Sweet Dreams” from the Eurythmics. They also played a new song titled, “6 A.M.”

The show went fast, flew by much like a good show should (I didn’t even need alcohol). Before I knew it we reached the encore and the six-piece band played “We Don’t Need Love Songs,” a song off their 2009 EP, Songs for a Breakup, Vol. 1, one of the top performances of the evening. They closed it out with their hit “MoneyGrabber,” where lead singer, Fitzpatrick, demanded the crowd get as low as they could for the final chorus which led to jumping frenzy.

The California band brings an old soul with a contemporary attitude that bridges the gaps of all ages. They’re on the right path and know how to party. Aside from their slow song, “Tighter” (my personal favorite off the record), it was a fast-paced show that at worst kept your toes tapping. I lived a little last night.

Fitz’s opening act was Devin Therriault.
