Due out later this year is Black River, a film starring Diamond Dallas Page and Hulk Hogan.
It’s not your average movie starring wrestlers, past or present. There are no marines, no ex-cons fighting for their life and no one trying to coach a bunch of kids in a juvenile detention center.
DDP plays Clayton Elie, a man who moves to a Midwestern town called Black River for a fresh start after losing his son in an accident and suffering from alcohol abuse himself. After a night of heavy drinking Elie wakes up to his neighbors murdered and the murder weapon inside his apartment. The events lead to a spinning wheel of violence, suspense and more alcohol. Hogan’s character is only mentioned to be ‘rumored’ on the movie’s IMDB page.
Page clearly shows some much improved acting chops that puts his Ready to Rumble days behind him. He showcases a passionate intensity that makes you believe. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of role or impact Hogan will make, he doesn’t show up in the teaser trailer.
The film actually looks pretty good if you ask me (based on the trailer obviously). Is it because it’s not tied to WWE Films? The film work? The script? Anything in the middle of the nowhere freaks me out for sure. I do hope the movie films more than an apartment complex. which is all you see in the teaser.
The film is written by Eric Anderson and directed by Joe Eckardt.
