Bar Review: Finnerty’s Bar

Finnerty's BarIn case you haven’t heard Finnerty’s Bar has completed renovating itself once again.  First they were on Third Avenue and decided to shut things down and move to Second Avenue, then they weren’t happy with their setup within the bar, they decided to reorganize.

They took the pool table away from the jukebox and placed in the back area of the bar, the more logical area, seeing how it’s dedicated to games.  The bar also changed the seating of the place.  It’s now arranged for more of a group setting, so it doesn’t feel like people are standing on top of you.

The frat presence has diminished but is still evident at times.  Nevertheless, here is the breakdown on Finnerty’s Bar, located on Second Avenue between 13th and 14th Street.

Ambiance: As you can probably guess from the statements above, the environment has vastly improved.  Hanging out in this East Village bar no longer means you’ll be surrounded by popped-polo shirts or khaki shorts.  Don’t be surprised if you have find the ‘old-man’ bar staple sitting in the corner.  The pool table is much better suited in the backroom area, however it’s missing a few of the 16 pool balls.  You’ll have to use a stripe or a solid  to, well, make up for a stripe or solid to fill the table of 16.

Food: They don’t serve food at Finnerty’s Bar but I’m sure you’d have no problem ordering food into the establishment or bringing food in with you as long as you’re a clean eater.

Drinks: Well I’m sure Finnerty’s Bar has its normal house red & white wines but I’d stay far away from those.  I don’t imagine them being ‘corked’ that much.   Beer is the way to go at Finnerty’s.  I personally recommend the Bluepoint Toasted Lager.  Its roasted flavor is addictive.  It’s hard to have just one if you catch my drift. Other beers worth trying while you’re there are Magic Hat #9 and Delirium Tremens.  Magic Hat #9 as you may know, is full of flavor.  Not to heavy, not to light, you can sound cool and original ordering a Magic Hat.  Delirium Tremens is, um, for those blackout nights.  It’s bursting with alcohol.  It’s hard to have two if you drink those, but best of luck to you! They also have a bunch of the normal beers like Stella Artois, Blue Moon, and the healthy beer that is Guinness.

Entertainment: As I mentioned, there is a pool table in the backroom along with Buck Hunter.  The bar is aligned with TV’s that spread from the door all the way to the back wall.  If you’re there to catch a big game (they have all the premium sports packages like NFL Sunday Ticket, MLB Extra Innings, and NHL Center Ice) you won’t have a bad seat in the house.

Should you check out Finnerty’s? Well if you went to the bar when it was frat-boy love fest than you definitely should.  The bar has changed for the better with lots of beers on tap to cater to your every need.
