I don’t know how much of a ‘fall’ it is for Norah Jones but her new album, The Fall, is definitely a step in a different direction.
She’s thrown a Wurlitzer into the mix, went a little heavier on the guitars and created some news sounds that a Norah Jones record hasn’t been able to resonate.
It’s her fourth album release, it was produced, recorded and mixed by Jacquire King, released courtesy of Blue Note Records.
The album opens up with one of the more upbeat tracks, “Chasing Pirates.” As I mentioned earlier, that Wurlitzer starts everybody off and set’s the tone for the whole album. It’s one of the more commercial tracks on the album. But it makes you want to dance.
Another good track on the album is “I Wouldn’t Need You.” It’s about a romantic crutch that you can’t just seem to break no matter how hard you try. If it doesn’t make you think of calling up your ex to rekindle that old fire only he/she knew how to light, something is wrong with you.
“It’s Gonna Be” is another fun track. It’s about reaching the point in a relationship with your loved one where you just don’t care anymore. We’ve all been there before and that just makes the track more powerful.
Another great track to check out is track 9, “Back To Manhattan.”
I give this album 3 out of 5 stars.
For my fellow New Yorkers, Norah Jones will be performing at The Theater at Madison Square Garden on 3/27/10.
